We'd like to welcome you to our little corner of the world, a place we like to hang out at, eat, meet friends and drink our cares away. It's a place called Mama Kwans, and as long as you eat your vegetables (or stuff them under your napkin), Mama Kwan will be happy to serve and entertain you!! The most award winning restaurant in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2001 and 2002, located in the heart of Kill Devil Hills Mama Kwans is a local favorite that has a fun atmosphere, great food, and is a must visit location while on vacation.
Thank you for considering our unique little Outer Banks restaurant. The name of our restaurant, Mama Kwan’s comes from the mother of the owner, Kwan and she is the inspiration behind our food. Many of the sauces and marinades are from her kitchen and if you look around you may see her roaming about and giving Kwan pointers on how things should be done, as well as giving him a hard time about not being married yet.
WE ARE NOT A CHINESE RESTAURANT, but we have borrowed tastes from the Pacific Rim (Hawaii, Japan, Thailand and others). We use only the finest ingredients in the preparation of your Outer Banks meal. Our menu is designed to cover all types of taste, so even the pickiest member of your party can find something they will enjoy. If you are looking for Outer Banks seafood, we offer world class Crab Cakes, tasty Scallops, Pepper Seared Ahi Tuna, Mahi Tacos, Shrimp and different Outer Banks seafood specials every night.
We offer non-seafood dishes for the land-lover, such as our Hawaiian Pork Plate, Flat Irons steak and a Blackened Hawaiian Chicken Dish, (which was voted best of the beach). We also offer a fantastic line of different Pastas and sandwiches.
During our first two years we were awarded with top honors at the Dare County Restaurant Association’s “TASTE OF THE BEACH” (2001 and 2002). But we are more concerned with your meal and experience here than any awards we have received. We are a laid back, fun and casual dining experience for the whole family. We laugh a lot and the employees like working with each other, which you will notice in the atmosphere. We hope you enjoy eating here at Mama Kwans as much as we enjoy having you with us.
