Colington Island was first settled by Algonquin Indians then granted to Sir Jon Colleton on September 8, 1663. Colington was one of our first successful settlements.

The best known sub division is Colington Harbour. It is situated approximately 10 miles from the Intercostal Waterway and is a paradise for boaters and sailors. Boats with a four to five foot draft maneuver easily into the harbour canals. Established in 1967, Colington Harbour is the largest neighborhood on Colington Island. It boasts a friendly sound front park, and approximately 14 miles of waterfront property. The Colington Yacht Club's Wednesday evening sailboat race adds a fine spectacle to the water.
